‘Lane, I need a helping hand if you have a minute?’ I call out, the weight of the concrete paneling making my legs almost give way. ‘Like… ASAP?’

‘No fear,’ Lane shouts, running over to me and securing the paneling in position on the truck’s loading bay. ‘Fuck. That really was heavy.’

‘I had it under control. Kinda,’ I say, patting Lane on his shoulder and smiling.

‘You’re still on a high after your fun with Reece I see,’ Lane says, a knowing look on his face. ‘But if thinking too much about your Daddy’s ass is going to lead to you being crushed by hundreds of pounds worth of concrete, I’d maybe try and park those thoughts.’

‘Ha!’ I laugh. ‘It’s true. I can’t even deny it. I do need to try and keep my mind clear when I’m lifting big or handling machinery. But… it’s hard.’

‘That’s what he said,’ Lane laughs, keeping the banter going. ‘But seriously, I’m happy for you. Reece Bellham might be a pain in the butt when it comes to deadlines and material specification, but if he makes you happy then that’s all good with me.’

‘Thank you, bro,’ I reply, giggling to myself as I remember another juicy detail from the night before last. ‘It all feels so new and exciting. And you know…’

‘Yeah?’ Lane says, leaning on the truck and taking a moment to wipe the sweat from his brow.

‘I saw Fraser earlier that day,’ I say. ‘And I let him get in my head. Just like how he used to.’

‘That asshole,’ Lane says, shaking his head in disgust.

‘I know. I know,’ I continue. ‘But here’s the thing. The second I got the message from Reece, I totally forgot about Fraser trying to neg me like he used to when we were together. I know Fraser hasn’t been my Daddy for a long time, but for a brief second it felt like he had that same power over me that he used to. And it sucked. It felt so bad. But when I heard from Reece, and then when I went over to see him… I didn’t even think of Fraser once. Fraser’s been out of my life for a while, but for the first time he’s truly out of my head too.’

‘That’s what I like to hear,’ Lane says. ‘I know I haven’t had anything serious with a Daddy for a while, but I think that you should go for it with Reece. Everyone can see how happy he’s made you. A true Blue Collar Boy only ever wants to see his brother happy, you know?’

‘Yup, I sure do,’ I say, happy that Lane is on board and supportive of my relationship with Reece. ‘I’m lucky to have you guys in my life.’

‘And we’re lucky to have you!’ Lane laughs. ‘And we’ll be even luckier to have you when you get the first round of drinks in at On The Rocks later!’
